Arctic Watch Beluga Foundation
The Arctic Watch Beluga Foundation (AWBF) is a non-profit corporation, with the mission to ensure a future for the beluga whales of Cunningham Inlet through supporting scientific research and education at Arctic Watch.
The Foundation will support two programs; original scientific research in Cunningham Inlet and a program for young adults to experience the Arctic wilderness and participate in meaningful research. Inuit youth from Nunavut will be invited to participate in this program. The scientific research will be conducted by researchers from Mystic Aquarium.
We believe that climate change, increased traffic in and around the Northwest Passage, and social and economic pressures threaten the future of the beluga whales in Cunningham Inlet.
Individuals and corporations can sponsor the either research programs or youth participants. We need your help to succeed with this very important mission.
SUMMER 2012
This summer we are excited to have beluga whale researchers at Arctic Watch. Dr Tracey Ramano and Dr Tracy Spoon will spend two weeks studing the belugas to determine a reserach program for future summers. The photographic identification of individula whales will start this summer. Whale indentifcatoin specialist, Gretchen Freund and Nansen Weber will build a photographic data base of whale heads and tails.
Come to Arctic Watch for the beluga whales and stay for the adventure.
